Elowah Falls & Wahclella Falls

Category: Columbia River Gorge
Tags: , ,

Location: Columbia River Gorge

Both hikes were short and not too hard, but very nice. We were looking for shorter hikes that we can take people on who don’t want to do a strenuous workout… I think both of these will work for that. When we started the hike, we saw a doe munching on something in the woods. She didn’t mind us. The temperature changed several times from hot to cold (like when by the waterfalls). The small enclosed gorge areas stay cooler and the wind from the waterfalls creates a lot of cool air. There are several bridges that go over the creeks and give you a chance to stand over the water and look down into it. At Wahclella, there are huge (almost house size) boulders that fell in a 1970′s landslide. They are in the stream and the water flows around them.
