Location: Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
Distance: 5 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,000 feet

Our first spring hike in the Gorge was at Herman Creek, which is west of Eagle Creek. It was raining a bit, but not too bad. There is one section on the hike with mossy boulders all around and it has the look of an elf kingdom. There were large cave-like spaces under some of the boulders… I was afraid to look inside… large animals could be sleeping in them for all I knew. We intended to go farther than we did so that we would end up at the junction of two creeks, but we’re still out of shape after several weeks of the flu, so maybe next time.
