Oneonta Creek Trail
Category: Columbia River GorgeTags: Oneonta Creek, Triple Falls, waterfalls
Distance: about 6 miles
Elevation gain: about 1,200 feet
Location: Columbia River Gorge
This is the trail that goes to Triple Falls, but instead of starting at Horsetail Falls and going over the Oneonta Gorge, we started at the Oneonta Creek trailhead located 1/2 mile west of Horsetail Falls. Our destination was beyond Triple Falls, to the junction of Oneonta Creek Trail and Horsetail Creek Trail. The distance from the trailhead to the junction is 3 miles.
All of the hike is pretty, but after you get past Triple Falls, it becomes another world. Moss and ferns cover every surface, even the trees. Most of the hike is beside the lovely Oneonta Creek and highlights include two wooden bridges. In the past, we only made it to the second bridge and not the junction due to snow and ice. Today we made it all the way to the junction and then turned onto the Horsetail Creek Trail to get closer to the creek. There is a nice campsite at this location and we stopped to enjoy the scenery here (and for a snack break) before heading back.

What gorgeous, sumptuous photos. I am hanging my head in shame that I have not found your blog sooner. I can’t wait to catch up on your past posts.
Amazing Trail Lisa. I love to run in the trails but this looks wonderful to hike. I will love to visit it one day.
Thanks Heather! I assume you are a hiker as well. This is such a great place to live and hike.
Thanks Sanjana! We did see some trail runners on this hike, but it is fairly rocky so I think it would be hard to run on it. This whole area is very beautiful.
