Memaloose Lake hike
Category: Mount Hood AreaTags: Clackamas River, Memaloose Lake
Location: Mount Hood National Forest southeast of Estacada near the Clackamas River
This was our first elevation hike… the trailhead is at 3,450 elevation and we climbed about another 1,000 feet. At the top is a small sub-alpine lake and an option to go higher to the top of a small mountain. We didn’t go farther than the lake since it was raining and we wouldn’t have a view at top of much but clouds. The hike is through an old growth forest on a sometimes narrow, rocky, root-filled trail. There is a small creek that we crossed several times with waterfalls along the way. The temperature here was about 20 degrees cooler than at home and there was a light steady rain all day.
